Given the economic and energy situation, I've been trying to make a concerted effort not to buy cheap crap from a certain human rights hole in Asia lately, buying "locally" produced goods (ie American) and if that fails concentrating on nearby countries or Europe.
Not that easy though when everything in a particular category in the stores you go to is made elsewhere. Tuesday evening, went in to Lowes to get some electrical gear (multimeter, circuit tester, etc.) With the exception of some plastic sleeves, which were made in Canada, I came up empty for locally produced merchandise.
Yes, I'm sure if I did enough research I could have found something, but that's somewhat hard to do if you need the hardware at short notice (and driving around isn't going to help matters either.)
